United Khawzim Brothers of Churachandpur overcame Imphal East outfit UPAA 3-1 on penalties after regulation period of the thrilling match ended goalless while FC Kangchup edged past BMSC 2-1 to progress into the next round in today’s thrilling encounters of the ongoing 61st CC Meet 2019 played under the aegis of AMFA at Artificial Turf Ground, Khuman Lampak, Imphal.
It was a dominant first-half display from United Khawzim Brothers as Clement Lalthuoisang and the attacking quartet of Peter Seiminthang Haokip, Johnson Manlun, Thanggoulen Haokip and Lamthianlal Vaiphei going close to scoring on several occasions as they spurned chances after chances and without much goal threat from UPAA, the first-half ended goalless much to the disappointment of the Khawzim faithfuls.
The second-half saw United Khawzim Brothers reestablishing dominance but UPAA also made gradual improvement and grew in confidence as they went on to hit the woodwork on two occasions and although UKB had also have chances of themselves, the evenly contested match ended scoreless.
With penalty shoot-out ensuing the deadlock, United Khawzim Brothers emerged 3-1 winners to set up a mouth-watering clash with Manipur State League record winners NISA of Thangmeiband in the next round on 9th February, 2019 at 01:30 pm at the same venue of Artificial Turf Ground, Khuman Lampak, Imphal.
In another match of the day, Sadar Hills champions FC Kangchup overcame Imphal West’s BMSC 2-1 to set up clash with Southern Sporting Union (SSU) on 6th February, 2019.
📜 Brief Analysis of UKB vs UPAA :
United Khawzim Brothers made a perfect start to the match and could have taken a huge-margin lead by the end of first-half but lack of composure and clinical finish in the final-third cost them dearly, else, they would have put the match out of the reach of their Imphal East counterparts at half-time. Lack of cutting edge from UKB, in turn, gave hopes and self belief for UPAA in the second-half and at times they went close to scoring especially on the counter attack but some smart intervention and timely reaction from the UKB’s defensive department and the goalkeeper kept the match at bay. Overall, the goalless draw failed to reflect the actual flow of the game as UKB had the lion share of both possession and chances created. With UKB facing daunting task of overcoming Manipur State League record winners NISA next, they must revamp their display and show composure and clinical performance in front of goal if they are serious enough in making further progress.
