ZOMI STUDENTS’ FEDERATION (ZSF)
January 12, 2019
Pursuant to the Federation’s earlier Condemnation & Appeal dated December 24, 2018, in connection with the kidnapping of Mr. KaiReuben of Mata village, Churachandpur, on December 21, 2018, we would, once again, like to reiterate that kidnapping for ransom is a serious crime, and it:
1. deprives the abducted person of basic freedom which is a violation of human rights and a serious contravention of International Humanitarian Law.
2. severely affects the family members, their neighbours, and the society at large, psychologically, and it may take years to recover. There is a sense of unease and fear as kidnapping is the most abdominal act whereby a person is resold to his family by employing several devious methods.
Over twenty days have passed since Mr. KaiReuben was abducted, and the harrowing experience of his family members defies both human endurance and imagination. We, as members of civilised society, are at loss for words.
The Zomi Students’ Federation (ZSF) fervently appeal to the abductors to come to their senses and release Mr. KaiReuben without any precondition, and shun this most repugnant and ignoble act.
The Federation also fails to fathom the miserable failure of various law enforcement agencies operating in the district, and appeal to them to pull up their socks, and if necessary, move heaven and earth, to secure the safe release of Mr. KaiReuben.
